Trio Afium was founded in 2010 by Hungarian jazz musicians Balázs Krommer, Péter Baksa and Máté Lachegyi. The band is based in the southern Hungarian city of Pécs, from where they have been touring regularly in Hungary and abroad. Among others, they performed at the Józsefváros Jazz Festival in Budapest, 2022, in Olomouc in 2021 (Czechia), at the Novi Sad Jazz Festival in 2017 (Serbia), and had a longer contract in Dubai in 2010—11.
While they are firmly rooted in the finest traditions of jazz piano trio (among others: Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau), and they love reinterpreting jazz standards, their unique sound and repertoire is characterised by their own compositions and tunes they came by on their musical journey, with a pinch of electronica. They take delight in every moment of the music freely, not being limited by barriers of genres.
Although Trio Afium performs mainly in jazz clubs and at jazz festivals, their versatile profile fits in numerous venues and musical situations. Since the very beginning, they’ve been playing at private parties, bars, and various events. Their repertoire is based on jazz standards, from the early swing and bebop standards to the more modern interpretations of the music of this sort, while keeping some of the well-known Latin styles such as bossa and samba on the repertoire. Occassionally, the trio extends its line-up with singers, saxophonists, and other solo instruments.
